November 2004 Newsletter
Spring has sprung
and we have a new property, new imported alpacas here, new stud boys, and new
training courses.
Our alpaca business continues to grow and our farm gets to bursting point at
birthing and mating time of the year. We have bought the property next door,
adding on 10 acres, enabling us to expand our operation. We are creating special
stud paddocks, separated by planting shelter in double fencing. There will be
new paddocks for visiting alpacas.
We're continuing
our annual renewal of pastures, with soil sampling, fertilising, then sowing of
seed. We renew 1/3 of our paddocks annually, sowing a range of grasses and herbs
to tempt alpacas, who are selective browsers.
Show Champions
We've have been developing the New Zealand alpaca industry
since 1989. Using top genetics, from three continents, this layering of genetics
over many generations has stood us, and our clients, in good stead. We have all
been pleased at results at the National Alpaca Expo and then the A&P Shows in
October.

At the National Alpaca Expo,
Aquaviva Stardust took
Champion Junior Female, pictured above left with owner Cathy
Roche, and
NZ Southern Capri won Champion Intermediate Female,
seen top right. These two plus NZ Southern Julius won Sire's
Progeny for ILR Alpine Fiber's Brutus. Brutus also
sired the Champion Black Huacaya, Diannariccardo Vincenzo.
In the middle is NZ Southern Chief Big Foot,
who took
Champion Junior Male. He is sired by Eringa Park Peruvian Irraquoy.
Stardust went on to win Supreme Champion
Huacaya at the Ellesmere Show, after winning Champion Junior, and Chief
Big Foot was Reserve Champion Junior there. Brutus took 1st in Sire's Progeny
again.
At the Hawkes Bay Show another Irraquoy boy,
Egmont Julius, took Supreme Champion Huacaya, and Irraquoy won Sire's
progeny with a pairing of two alike progeny. |
Imported Alpacas Arrived
Our
latest import of 24 top quality alpacas is here. There are females available,
both coloured and whites, mostly pregnant to top Australia studs. Here's an
example of these girls.
We are continuing to work with EP Cambridge,
Australia's largest and most successful alpaca stud. They are able to supply
excellent alpacas with superb genetics, and there will be further regular
shipments, so put your order in and we'll source for you. Nic, an alpaca judge,
personally selects these animals.

together, and providing regional support for alpaca owners. We have a new
northern member, so one of these farms will be somewhere near you, from north of
Auckland to the far south.
Members of the Alpaca Services Network own and/or

Studs on the Move
We're
the huacaya stud specialists. Our Stud Brochure lists over 20 studs available
around New Zealand, in conjunction with the Alpaca Services Network.
Our
stud boys travel around the country, and we've put a Stud Location Guide on our
stud page on our website. You'll be able to see when our boys are in your area.
So book in for your girl.
Our latest stud, just
arrived, pictured left, is Cambridge Encounter, Champion Junior Male from
the Australian Nationals 2003.
