We have a special sales release from our herd, of matriarchs, young fine-fleeced females, and stud and potential stud males.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corvette

The Matriarchs

These females are top producing units and have performed well for us, giving us many of our studs and our Show Team over the years and themselves performing well in Shows as youngsters. At about 7 years old they have top genetic backgrounds, excellent birthing records, a good breeding life ahead, and still have fine fibre.

Cremorne Corvette is one of several quality matriarchs released for sale. She is dam of Capri (Nationals Intermediate Female Champion), and 3 of her 4 male progeny have gone on to stud. She was Champion Fairlie Show 2001. She has medium fawn fleece which  is 24 micron, and she is 7.5 years old.

Chardonnay

The Youngsters

These girls represent the low micron high frequency alpacas typical of our Stud.

NZ Southern Chardonnay, pictured, is one of several low micron quality females offered.

Sired by NZ top male ILR Alpine Fiber's Brutus from a top dark brown dam from ILR Peruvian Drambuie.  Chardonnay's light fawn fleece is 16.5micron, 4.0sd, 100% cf and 47.6 deg curve, displaying 9 crimps per inch. Chardonnay is just a year old, and a mating to a Southern Alpacas Stud is included in the price of $7,500 +GST.

Take a look at our
alpacas for sale webpage for more like her.

These intermediate males display low micron and 100% comfort factor. They are offered to assist smaller breeders to improve microns of their herd, at reasonable prices.

Greenstone Ares had the finest junior fleece on our property last year at 12.8 micron. Now nearly two, his fleece is 15.9 micron, 4.0sd, 100% cf, 44.4 deg curve.     SOLD

Sired by top NZ male ILR Alpine Fiber's Brutus from a Spartacus (EPC) female.  A compact male with great density as well.

See our Studs and Herdsires for Sale webpage.

Seasonal Hints Summer 2007/08

·          Shearing time - make sure your fleece is long enough, and that it is clean prior to
shearing.  Take a mid side sample and get you microns tested. Weigh your total
fleece weight, and then remember to fill in the AGE submission form to get started on
     breeding values for your alpacas.

We strongly encourage clients with offspring from our males to register them and their shear data with AGE. This helps us get our stud male breeding values more accurate, and give you better advice on who to use for which female.

We also recommend that older animals that do not grow enough length for decent use in a 12 month period, are shorn anyway. This for animal health reasons. The shearers are still reporting cases of lice in alpacas with 2 year fleeces.

We are finding that modern day youngsters have fleece perfectly long enough to be shorn at 7 months, and are "over-fleeced" at 10 months. Consider shearing them young.  The second fleece will be far better for it.

Southern Alpacas is looking to buy in clean, fine, white and light fawn fibre to meet our manufacturers demands this year. We need this with us by the end of January.
