  Alpaca Winter Newsletter 2007

Welcome to the winter edition of our newsletter. In the south here it has been uncharacteristically mild, so far, and we hope not to get the snow of 2006.  Lifestyle Farmer have just published my article on taking care of alpacas in winter, and the next article is on body scoring, so I hope it assists alpacas to winter well this year.

Visiting the South ?

Hope the warmer weather holds for the annual AANZ conference, in Dunedin at the end of June. Our second alpaca farm was located on the seaside just outside Dunedin, and even with the coastal influence, winters were cold !

If you are coming for conference, you are welcome to call in and see us prior to the conference. Please give us advance notice of when you'd like to visit.

Buying Alpaca Fibre

We are buying more fine fibre in white and light fawn, under 24 micron, 3-4 inches long (70-105). alpaca yarn

It needs to be picked clean of vegetation, guard hair and short cuts, with no dirty or weathered tips or breaks. So, use those winter evenings cleaning and classing to make your fibre saleable and let me know what you will have available. I need it by the end of August.

I am also interested in fine blacks and greys, and I hope to be buying brown fleeces soon too.

You get paid for your fleece and do not have to pay for processing and you do not get product back which you then have to sell.

  Studs on Tour

Many of our top stud boys are hosted in the North Island on their winter break, seeking sun and sex.Maipo

You can see where the boys are expected to be when on our Stud Location Guide. This is a guide only as their location may change subject to bookings and how girls react to their advances !

So if your girls are planning a date with one of our boys, don't delay - book in today. Each stud has his own web page with his credentials, so take a look.
