Eringa Park Chameleon
a fine son of Caesar
IAR 111647 Born
7/02/2006
Aptly named
he is sometimes a rose grey, sometimes a fawn, and sometimes an
appaloosa - depending on the day and the light.
|
|
| |
 |
Pedigree:
Sired by the in-house male of EP Cambridge - EP Cambridge Caesar,
from a light fawn dam from NWA Ltd Ruffo. He has all the right
genetics in place.
His other side is similarly spotty. As a
youngster he looked as though he was a white who had been rolling in
the dirt - and in parting his fleece, he was grey. His spots have
come out more as he ages. |
|
 |
Fibre:
Whatever colour he is, his micron is always fine, with a well
defined high frequency, high amplitude crimp.
He was
17 micron on first shear for quarantine
(Nov 2006).
|
|
Shows:
His colour makes him difficult to fit in a
Championship Show Catalogue. He has only been shown once --
1st Intermediate Male Colours,
Malvern 2007 where the judge referred to "the spotty one" having an
excellent fleece.
His fleece went
into Alpaca Expo 2008 and it was first in his
class, 24-36 months grey. He was only one point behind the
grey fleece that went on to win champion grey fleece.
At Canterbury
Royal Show 2009 Chameleon won Best Grey
fleece and NZ Southern Distinct Impression
(daughter of Chameleon, pictured below) was
Best Fancy.
|
Progeny:
His first cria have been solid light
fawn from a fawn dam and two appaloosa, one from a white dam and one
from a fawn dam with some darker coloured patches herself. All three
cria have fine, good character fibre.
His progeny would indicate that his use is to produce high quality
appaloosa. |

Distinct Impression with her Best Fancy show ribbon
from Canterbury Royal Show. She has been to several shows and been
placed in the fancy class - first at Canterbury Royal Show
2009 and Malvern Show 2010 and second at Ellesmere Show 2009 and
Oxford Show 2010.
Notice how her spots have increased
over time. |
|
In 2009 Chameleon has continued with appaloosa
progeny - Mr Choc Chip below, from a brown dam. |
